History

Smithy for winches
Winches were indispensable for the journey and haulage business (wheel change at wheel fracture) and were part of the basic hardware of every carter. Furthermore winches were needed for raising big suitable s like cellar or barrel winches, winches for the mountain and bridge-building as well as winches for hammer ponds (swing hammer crusher) and sluices. Complicated smithy technology required almost the knowledge of an engineer and remained unchanged up to the 20th century.
